A Child’s Christmas in Wales

Filed under: Classes, Preview, Theater — Tags: , , — Lyndsay Booth @ 1:29 pm

The cast of A Child's Christmas in Wales during a recent rehersal.

The ArtsCenter proudly presents A Child’s Christmas in Wales. The Youth Preforming Arts Conservatory has been hard at work all fall and now would like to share with you some of what they accomplished.  There are still plenty of opportunities to come see the show. Below is the description of the show from the ArtsCenter’s website and a list of show times! Check back soon for shots from rehersals!

The Youth Performing Arts Conservatory and ArtsCenter Stage team up to present Dylan Thomas’ A Child’s Christmas in Wales, an opportunity for inter-generational collaboration and celebration.  Join us in the ice-cream hills for all the tall tales, balloons, dessertspoons, tinsled windows, fire brigades and tons and tons of useless presents.  We’ll leave a footprint so big, “people will think there’s been hippos”!

Showdates:  Saturday, December 12, Sunday, December 13, Friday, December 18, Saturday, December 19, Sunday, December 20

Showtimes: Fridays and Saturdays 7pm, Sundays 3pm

Rainbow Bridge

Last Saturday morning the ArtsCenter was filled with the ooooh’s and ahhh’s of children marveling at Hobey Ford and his puppets. Ford, who preformed at the ArtsCenter last year, told three folktales using his rod shadow puppets and then brought out some more life-like animals. He ended his show by answering questions from his young audience. Check out his website for more on how to make some simply puppets and as always click on “more” at the bottom of the post for more pictures.

Hobey Ford takes a break from his stories to explain how his puppets work.

Girlyman

This past Friday at the ArtsCenter Atlanta-based banded Girlyman put on a great show delivering three part harmonies and plenty of laughs between songs. Girlyman blends acoustic, Americana and rock with some classical and jazz influences. The trio has great on stage chemistry and played off one another skillfully, improvising and joking around. Make sure you check out more after the page break!

Girlyman plays during their show.

ELF Arts and Crafts Holiday Fair: December 12th!

The candy cane-themed flyer for this year's festival: Dec. 12, 1-5 at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro!

The ArtsCenter’s annual holiday crafts fair, ELF, is coming up on Dec. 12th from 1 to 5 at The ArtsCenter! House manager Amanda Barr, who runs the fair, says it’s going to be pretty punk rock. Go here to see a list of vendors and arts-and-craftsers who will be there–Santa and his elves are a given.

Here’s a note from Amanda on what’s new:
This year Roulette Vintage will be participating and joining in on organizing. ELF wants to welcome and encourage local artisans to share their arts and crafts with the surrounding community in an approachable and festive setting. This year we have an amazing selection of goods to adore; handmade soaps, knit goods, jewelry, pillows, silk screened clothing, ceramic vessels, holiday cards, imaginative magnets and lots of art. PLEASE COME AND ENJOY SNACKS, OLD HOLIDAY MOVIES, BEVERAGES, SANTA AND MUSIC!

Today’s link is 100 different shots of various things I wish I could see out my window every day. It’s one shot a day from Glacier National Park, lots of wildlife and nature. The photographer, Glacier Park Magazine editor Chris Peterson, used different types of cameras–including one from 1909!

I wish I were shooting that assignment instead of in Chapel Hill in the rain!
