Drood

There are a ton of exciting things going on this week as the ArtsCenter. First up is the Summer Youth Preforming Arts Conservatory’s performance of Drood: The Musical.  The Summer Youth Conservatory is a collaboration between the ArtsCenter and Playmakers Repertory Company, the professional  theater company at UNC.  It pairs talented young theater students with professional directors, choreographers and designers. Five weeks of classes cumulated in a staged production.

Based on the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens, Drood is a Tony Award winning musical in which the audience participates in solving a murder mystery.  I got to sit in on two rehearsals this week and these kids are really talented and the show is a lot of fun. 10 by 10 Festival Continues

Just a reminder the 10 by 10 Festival is continuing this weekend. Check out a show Saturday at 8 or Sunday at 3. Tickets are only $10 for ten awesome short plays. Here is your 10 by 10 photo of the week.

ArtsCamp 2010

ArtsCamp 2010 is in full swing for local children of all ages.  Students are exercising their creative skills in all different fields of art from comic book drawing to sculpture making to dance and fashion.  Several camps recently ended and students held a sharing day to show off to friends and family what they had been working so hard on over the past week or two. 10 by 10 Festival Begins Tonight!!

The  10 by 10 Festival begins tonight at the ArtsCenter!  Be sure to stop by this month and check it out! I saw a dress rehearsal last night and it was awesome. You will defiantly be sad if you don’t get a chance to see this show.  The Festival features ten 10 minute plays by playwrights from around the world.
