BattleField Band

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lyndsay Booth @ 9:30 pm

This past Saturday, the Scotish group Battlefield Band stopped by the ArtsCenter. Alex Forsyth, one of the photoblog’s best friends, was kind enough to share this photo. Battlfield Band has been together for over thirty years, but if for some reason the music thing stops working out perhaps a second career with the Rockettes?

Battlefield Band shows of their best Rockette impersonation. From left Alan Reid, Sean O'Donnell, Alasdair White and Mike Katz.

Today I dropped into Herb Slapo’s Introduction to Pastel Painting class and shot some of their artwork. They’re in the third week of their class and already making some beautiful pastel drawings! Check out photos below (more after the page break–click “more”).

Later on I’ll be posting more photos from a Hip-Hop Dance class and Plates and Platters pottery class. Stay tuned!

Celtic band Solas played The ArtsCenter last night, showing off their range playing violin, guitar, accordion, flute, keyboards, and–of all things–banjo! The show finished up The ArtsCenter’s 4th annual Celtic Concert Series. Check back next year for more Irish music! More photos after the page jump–click “more.”

Irish supergroup Patrick Street was here Sunday, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day! The date was one of their four US shows and part of the 4th annual Celtic Concert Series at The ArtsCenter. Fan and photographer (fantographer?) Daniel Coston was in the audience and was kind enough to send us some of his photos–check ’em out!

Dear Companion Tour

Complete with some powerhouse vocals and the most extensive set I’ve ever seen at the Earl and Rhoda Wynn Theatre, the Dear Companion Tour stopped by the ArtsCenter last week. The tour, featuring Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore with Lizzy Ross, is raising awareness of the practice of mountain top removal coal mining, which was reflected in their set. The show was part of The American Roots Series which continues through June at the ArtsCenter. Check out some photos of the show below and as always, don’t forget to click more!

Stone Soup

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lyndsay Booth @ 3:43 pm

Last weekend at the ArtsCenter, children and their parents were treated to the delightful story of Stone Soup. The story follows a little mouse in her quest to find food on her way to the big city school. On her way she encounters several colorful characters and teaches them the value of cooperation and sharing. The mouse also learns the importance of family. Check below for some photos of the play presented by Rags to Riches. Don’t forget to click more!
The ArtsCenter usually hosts a children’s show once a month. This month’s show is Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players. There are two shows, one at 11 am and one at 2pm on Saturday, March 20th.

The young mouse heroine and her father enjoy one last meal before she leaves for the big city school.
