ArtsCenter Yard Sale is tomorrow!

The ArtsCenter is cleaning up, moving stuff around and reorganizing–we’re having a yard sale tomorrow with all sorts of weird stuff for sale (and for free!). Rumor has it there will be a giant inflatable “luau party” arch, boxes and boxes of doll-house making stuff and art left behind by various artists, with some furniture and other office supplies.

Come and check it out tomorrow! It’s in the parking lot to the left of the front door starting at 7 a.m. Pictures of some of the stuff that will be available are below.

International Festival

The International Festival in Raleigh is this weekend! It started today and goes through Sunday. There’s dancing, music, kids’ activities and food from all around the world. Adult tickets are $6, kids 12 and under are free. It’s at the new Convention Center in Raleigh (500 South Salisbury St.). I’m shooting it for the festival, here are some shots!

There are still spaces open for kids in grades K-5 in the ArtsCenter’s AfterSchool Arts Immersion program!

The program provides transportation and homework help while helping children develop their artistic abilities.

The AfterSchool program runs until about 6 p.m. daily and also runs “mini-camps” on teacher workdays.

Monthly tuition is $225, and transportation is an extra $85 per month. Mini-camps cost $50 for the whole day.

Below are some photos of the kids playing outside and painting pottery (all by me except the bottom, which is Lyndsay’s)!

Giant colorful puppets made by the Paperhand Puppet Intervention from recycled materials are on display now in the main lobby of the ArtsCenter.

The local puppeteering group will put on their annual puppet show at Chapel Hill’s Forest Theater for four weekends in August and September. It will also put on two performances at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh.

This year’s show is called “The Living Sea of Memory.” The Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s website says the show “investigates and celebrates the richness and complexity of our inner life, our dreams, and our connection with all that is; using giant puppets, painted cardboard, masks, stilts, shadows and more, all performing to live music by the Paperhand band.” For show times, click here.

For more information on what the Paperhand Puppet Intervention is all about, click here.

More photos of the display are below. Visit the ArtsCenter at 300-G West Main Street in Carrboro to get the full experience!
